Theater Season at Teatro Massimo in Palermo

''Art renews peoples and reveals their life. Vain of the scenes the delight where it does not aim to prepare the future "
This is the epigraph of Camillo Finocchiaro Aprile, minister of grace and justice, engraved on the architrave of the portico of the Teatro Massimo.
The Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele, better known as Teatro Massimo, in Palermo is the largest opera house in Italy, and one of the largest in Europe (third in terms of architectural magnitude after the Opéra National in Paris and the Staatsoper of Vienna).
The theater has a simple spatial structure and a clear, harmonic and geometric volume, of Greek and Roman inspiration.
Representative rooms, halls, galleries and monumental stairways surround the actual theater, forming an architectural complex of enormous proportions.
The theater has a horseshoe-shaped room with five tiers of boxes plus a gallery.

Almond Blossom in Agrigento - February

Since 1953, this is one of the most famous event of the entire region

The Almond Blossom Festival has been attracting thousands of tourists for decades. Born in the nearby village of Naro, in the beginning it was a popular festival, a rural rite that celebrated the myth of Proserpina and was called '' New Year's Feast '' - In 1953 it was moved to Agrigento under the name of 'Almond Blossom Festival' and since then, every year, it takes place in the month of February in the splendid scenery of the Valley of the Temples, full of white almond blossoms. The main protagonists are both Sicilian and international folklore groups who delight guests by playing and dancing to the rhythm of popular music, under the approval of UNESCO which is a partner of the event. Among the most evocative moments of this event: the lighting of the friendship tripod, which starts the festival, the friendship torchlight procession and the parade of folkloric groups. The final show takes place at the Temple of Concord with the awarding of the prizes.

Easter in Piana degli Albanesi

Easter is the apex of the Christian liturgy. A feast prepared by forty days of penance and which is now celebrated over a whole week.                            In Piana degli Albanesi at Easter, rich in signs and symbols of the liturgy, numerous traditions are accompanied that make it a special event to "taste" beyond the religious aspect. The Latin and Greek Orthodox liturgy over the centuries have diversified and it is a real religious and cultural opportunity to be able to experience the richness of the Greek-Byzantine Rite, just a few steps from Palermo in the Arbëreshë community of Piana degli Albanesi.
Yes, because the religious community is now assimilated to the Catholic Church, but the rites and liturgical celebrations have preserved all the details and the expressive richness of the Greek-Byzantine rite. Evocative vestments, folkloric manifestations, fascinating songs and liturgies make it a real treasure to know, participate in and spread: a true religious and cultural heritage. This Easter festival is felt by all Albanian communities, not only Sicilian and it is not uncommon to be able to attend folkloristic gatherings of other Italian-Albanian communities that engage in traditional dances, songs and dances, sometimes very ancient.

TARGA FLORIO - May

It was in Paris that the race was devised. The progenitor was Vincenzo Florio known as' 'u Cavaleruzzu' 'born in Palermo in 1883 he traced the path on a sheet of paper, discussing with his friend Henri Desgrange director of the famous French magazine' 'l' Auto ''. During the race two bands alternated in the execution of the pieces to cheer the large audience during the waiting spaces for the passage of the cars in the race. The acts of those heroic times enhanced by the difficulty of the track and the epic character of the race remain in the memory of many. The Targa Florio has already taken place 61 times. The Sicilian roads have always been the scene of the race and in particular the narrow and winding ones that run through the Madonie mountain range. The Targa Florio immediately entered into legend: its fame derived from the enormous difficulties inherent in the hardness of the track to the point that, especially in the early years, just being able to complete the race meant carrying out a titanic undertaking.

San Vito Lo Capo will return to host chefs from all over the world, guests and artists for ten days of appointments, cooking challenges, tastings and cultural meetings. The central moments of the event will always be the couscous championships that compare Italian and international chefs.
